Students From Across the East Sea Experience Memorable Summer Retreat
The student's Summer Retreat was held from August 3rd to 6th at Mt. Sobaek Youth Hostel in Danyang, located in the Chungbuk province. This year's summer retreat was attended by special guests, the eleven-member 'Trinity' praise team from Ida Manmin Church in Japan.
Much joy was shared as 18 year old Sumika Kumakai, from Ida Manmin Church, won the popularity prize in the praise competition as well as the title of MVP at the sports competition.
Each member of 'Trinity' prepared for this Summer Retreat with a longing heart and prayer. Among them was Sumika Kumakai (president of Ida Manmin Church Students Ministry), who had always been praying to achieve better grades in school.
"Of course, I tried hard to get better grades, but in between preparing for praise, worshipping, and volunteering, I didn't have enough time to study. For this I received the handkerchief prayer (Acts 19:11-12) from Pastor Seung-gil Ryu at the Ida Manmin Church Handkerchief Prayer Meeting. When test week finally arrived, from June 29th to July 2nd, I scored very well on my tests, placing 2nd in my class and 6th in my entire school. When I tried my hardest and gave my utmost effort, even when time was insufficient, God was there. And He helped me achieve great results."
In August 2005, Sumika Kumagai's mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. But when she attended the Anniversary Service of Manmin Central Church and received the prayer of Dr. Jaerock Lee, she was perfectly healed. As a witness to this experience, Sumika's father also joined the church. They then gathered all the idols in the house and burned them. And soon enough, Sumika's brother was evangelized to, as well. Sumika Kumagai expressed thanks to Dr. Jaerock Lee who prayed for her, saying that she is so happy to be able to attend church with her entire family.
