[Special] The kind of person who does not circumcise the heart
When they accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, new believers are filled with joy and happiness because the problem of their sins is resolved and receive the Holy Spirit. But in the process of the circumcision of their heart, they may pray with groaning because they fail to act on the Word of God even with their knowledge of the Word. They may also pray with groaning to become a person of spirit (Romans 7:24). It is important to die every day to get rid of the ‘self’ in attaining to the full measure of Christ. On the other hand, there are those who live according to the flesh and grieve the Holy Spirit within them and thus groan in anguish. They must quickly turn back and instead follow the desires of the Spirit to fill their heart with joy, thanks, and hope for heaven.
They are negative and afraid
People who have fear and negative perspective in their religious lives tend to have a lot of worry and anxiety. They often have negative thoughts in everyday life or still have sinful natures left inside the heart so that they think God is a judge ahead of the Father of love and forgiveness. The reason that believers have fear is because they fail to live in the truth. When they listen to and obey the Word of God, the Holy Spirit rejoices and their heart becomes filled with joy and hope as well. But fear comes upon them when they do not act upon the knowledge of the Word of God. A wise person can quickly find their wrongdoings and turn back, repent, and try to live by the Spirit.
They judge and condemn
People who like to judge others often spread gossip, and they feel frustrated thinking justice hasn’t been served when wrongdoers are not punished. If those wrongdoers are unexpectedly praised, they are disheartened. When they hear the other’s gossip, they slander and when the person is punished, they feel satisfied. They will never do so if the ‘other person’ is their family member. Of course, it is not right to unconditionally cover up someone’s sin. As written in Matthew 18:15-17, they should first give a private warning to the person who sinned and if the person does not listen, they take one or two people along; and if the person still does not listen, they tell it to the church.
They have no peace, rest or tranquility
‘No peace’ means a presence of too much worry and anxiety. As they do not rely on God, they try to do everything themselves, which means God is unable to help them. This leads to distress and worry, no peace in the heart. Without the hope for heaven, they have lingering attachments to the world and with walls of sin and fleshly thoughts, they cannot pray with concentration so that they lose the fullness of the Spirit and have no peace. The Holy Spirit rejoices and we are filled with the Spirit when we abide by the truth with the knowledge of the Word of God. Thus, as our soul prospers, worries depart from us and we can lead a successful life at peace. And we will enjoy true rest and the kingdom of God be within us.
