A changing heart brings a deviation from the initial decision according to one’s own interests ? not having a set mind. A changing heart can be one of the biggest obstacles to spiritual growth. People who are naturally impatient, get easily bored or give up quickly fall on this category. But they can be transformed if they work hard in the help of the Holy Spirit along with grace and strength from God.
1. Don’t make decisions hastily, carelessly, or recklessly depending on emotion and atmosphere
There are many people who come to regret making momentary decisions while influenced by their emotions or atmosphere. Those who are generally talkative or like to tell jokes need to check whether their words are spoken hastily and carelessly. Great care must be taken not to become someone who is unable to keep their words. Not keeping promises to themselves, easily breaking promises with others and regularly reneging on promises in front of God are characteristics of someone with a changing heart. It’s imperative to keep all words and decisions made in the heart before God (Psalm 15:4; Numbers 30:2). Above all, it’s important to practice thinking in the truth, speaking carefully and making decisions wisely under the control of the Holy Spirit not to make verbal mistakes (James 1:19).
2. Increase ability to keep promises starting from the small things
The best way to get rid of a changing heart is to put small decisions into practice. People sometimes change minds because of the attributes of a changing heart. But the more change of minds occurs because sinful natures become greater. It’s important to develop the ability to put their words or decisions into action one by one to get rid of a changing heart. When we are determined to throw away some sinful natures in the heart, it’s essential to pray for it continually and practice it steadfastly. If we stop trying, sinful natures come back and end up being repeated later in life. In order to get rid of a changing heart quickly, it is so important to practice daily even whatever trivial things we say or resolve to do. Through continuous practice we can receive the ability to exercise self-control and self-management, and apply it in everyday life.
3. Don’t give up on yourself in the middle of being discouraged
In the process of achieving sanctification some people lose heart and give up when they discover their shortcomings. They can’t achieve sanctification not only because of the attribute of a changing heart but also due to giving up from discouragement. Sometimes a changing heart occurs from a lack of determination and perseverance and it also stems from cunningness or betrayal. To enter into whole spirit, we need to realize that a changing heart is fundamentally connected with all forms of evil and cast it off. Accordingly, if we leave alone the nature of a changing heart in a trivial aspect we’ve discovered, it will take root within us and grow into a large tree of evil. We have to find all elements of changeableness in life, whether small or big, and cast it off with the help of the Holy Spirit so a changing heart will not take root. Do not give up and continue to discard attribute of changeableness.
